The Lagos State Ministry of Health on Friday sealed a private lab for carrying out COVID-19 tests versus the policy of the state federal government.
The private lab recognized as Acouns Medical Laboratory and Diagnostic Centre lies at Banana Island, Ikoyi area of the state.
Providing the update on its Twitter deal with, the ministry disclosed that the laboratory was situated in a drug store and lacked the necessary government approval to carry out COVID-19 tests.
The health commissioner, Akin Abayomi, earlier listed the names of the approved personal laboratories that are allowed to perform COVID-19 tests.
The seven authorized laboratories, which formed a consortium of private labs went through a strenuous procedure to ensure they fulfill the necessary standard to carry out COVID-19 tests, the commissioner said.

Overall Medical Providers,
Medbury Medical Services,
Biologix Medical Providers,
02 Medical Solutions, and
Clina Lancent Laboratory.
Mr Abayomi previously revealed that it is unlawful for any private lab to manage COVID-19 clients or conduct tests without the approval of the federal government.
Following the sealing of the lab, the ministry stated it will continue to make sure the adherence of medical facilities and labs to government regulations to ensure the wellness of Lagosians.
” People are advised to desist from buying from Health centers not recognized by Lagos government for screening or management of COVID-19 cases as this presents threat to the community and staff of such centers.
” It is unlawful to manage COVID-19 cases outside of a recognized center. As a public, we implore you not to go for test or treatment in a private center that has actually not been recognized by federal government. It is dangerous and you may certainly put you at risk,” the ministry wrote
The ministry advised homeowners to comply with the government and assist consist of the spread of the coronavirus.
