After being shuttered for nearly two months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, some businesses and street-facing retail stores are being given the “green light” to reopen in the Greater Montreal area as of May 25.
Quebec Premier François Legault said Monday that public health conditions had been met for the government to push forward with its plan after the original opening date was moved back.
Daycares in the Montreal area will also be allowed to reopen as of June 1, but the premier said it would be a gradual process and that facilities may not be able to operate at full capacity right away.
Quebec saw 34 new deaths attributable to COVID-19 on Monday, the province’s lowest rise in deaths since mid-April, according to Legault. The death toll is currently 3,596.
