Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the FDA, tells TODAY that the current surge in coronavirus cases “is really an epidemic; we don’t have control of it,” and adds that “unfortunately, I think deaths are going to rise again.” He urges people to wear masks and avoid large indoor gatherings over Fourth of July weekend: “We don’t want a repeat of what happened on Memorial Day.” But he anticipates a vaccine may be available as soon as early 2021.
