Amitabh Bachchan was shifted to the Nanavati hospital in Mumbai after testing positive for coronavirus on Saturday. The Bollywood megastar informed about his Covid-19 report on Twitter and asked all those who have been in close proximity to him to get themselves tested for coronavirus.
One of Amitabh Bachchan’s doctors spoke to India Today Television and said that the superstar had been complaining of breathlessness over the last couple of days. He took a Covid-19 test and the results said positive on Saturday evening, following which he was admitted to the hospital.
Amitabh Bachchan, however, is not on ventilator currently, the doctor said.
The doctor said that they did not make the formal announcement as Amitabh Bachchan himself chose to make the announcement and inform his fans.
“I have tested Covid positive. Shifted to Hospital. Family and staff undergone tests, results awaited. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested,” Amitabh Bachchan said in a tweet Saturday evening.

Nanavati Hospital is located in Mumbai’s Vile Parle, which is very close to the actor’s residence in Juhu area of the city.
On being asked whether there was any concern relating to the actor’s health, the doctor said concerns primarily came from two factors, his age and comorbidities, given the fact that Amitabh Bachchan has had a series of liver and abdominal problems in recent times.
During the shooting of the film Coolie in 1982, his liver was damaged in a near-fatal accident. He has lived with a compromised liver since then on account of discipline. He works out regularly and follows a strict dietary regime.
Doctors maintained that Amitabh Bachchan was being looked after very well and were confident that the megastar should recover soon with adequate treatment.
Amitabh Bachchan, one of the world’s most famous filmstars, happens to be the second superstar to contract the coronavirus. Hollywood’s Tom Hanks along with his wife had earlier tested positive and recovered after the mandatory quarantine.
Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Shoojit Sircar’s comedy-drama Gulabo Sitabo alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The film was initially going to be released in theatres, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
