The PHE stated it had actually told the paper that the number of infections to have come from Pakistan– 30 cases only– was a “little number” but it is thought the paper chose not to publish it in favour of a spicy heading.
Despite several requests for information about imported COVID-19 cases from countries other than Pakistan, the PHE did not offer the figures.
The PHE spokesperson declared that The Telegraph had actually acquired figures on the number of imported cases from Pakistan “through a number of global sources” and that “their story would have been released regardless of PHE’s involvement”.
