Guwahati, Nov 21: Previous Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s health condition weakened with multi-organ failure and he has become unconscious with problem in breathing, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.
The 86- years of age veteran Congress politician, who was on Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) since he was admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Medical Facility (GMCH) on November 2 due to post-COVID complications, was put under invasive ventilation, the minister stated.
” Around afternoon today, his condition weakened with difficulties in breathing. Doctors began an intubation ventilator, which is machine ventilation,” stated Sarma, who hurried to the GMCH to ask Gogoi’s health. Gogoi is “completely unconscious” and has struggled with multi-organ failure, the minister included.
” Efforts are on to restore his organs with medications and other means. The physicians will also attempt a dialysis. The next 48-72 hours are extremely crucial and we are doing whatever possible,” he said. Sarma stated physicians of GMCH remain in consistent touch with specialists from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi and ruled out any possibility of moving him to outside the state in this condition.
” We are regularly updating the household and every choice is being taken with their approval just,” he added.
On October 25, the three-time former chief minister, who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 and other post-recovery problems, was released from the GMCH after investing exactly two months there. Gogoi had actually evaluated positive for COVID-19 on August 25 and was confessed to the GMCH the next day.
” Gogoi is on mechanical ventilation, got incubated today night on inotropic assistance. His condition is vital,” said Abhijeet Sharma of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
